Lavert's Vision I have always had a passion for the Art's. I did my first musical at age 5, and got my first staring role in "Good King Wenceslas" when I was in the 5th grade. I have been doing plays educationally and professionally all my life. I come from a family that is well acquainted with the Arts & Education. My Grandfather was a professional Musician and an educator. My uncle Elliott Chavers currently enjoys a career as professional Jazz & Blues man www.elliottchavers.com. My mother is an educator and a public speaker. I was lucky enough to be exposed to plays, symphonies, musicals, concerts, and museums as a child growing up in the Bay Area of California. My mother and father supported me and sacrificed to get me where I am today, and I am grateful for that. Art is an important part of my life and I feel everyone should be given the opportunities I had. I started the People's Artistic Experience INC with that thought in mind. I was a drama instructor for the City of Corpus Christi's Latchkey program and I met an amazing young man one summer. He was a person I was familiar with. Center of attention and a little misunderstood - a lot like I was. At 12 years old, he had tried to do everything that he could to fuel his artistic desire - including joining his school's drill team. He had hit a ceiling. There was not a lot of support for him in his family. I used a few of my connections to get him an in at the local community theater, but due to financial and transportation problems he was not able to take advantage of their programs. I wanted to help more, but that was all I could do at the time. If only I had a way to transport him, the money to pay for his classes, or better yet - a program of my own. I shared this story and my frustrations with my mom. She offered me three words that changed my life and hopefully the lives of many others. She said, "So do it", and I did. The People's Artistic Experience INC. was created to expose people of all ages, nationalities, backgrounds, experiences, & talents to the performing and visual arts regardless of economic status. As a non-profit organization, and through the generosity of grants and donations from businesses and individuals that understand the importance of the Arts - we are able to offer programs to those who might not otherwise be able to participate in the Arts. It is my vision that anyone that wants the Arts should be able to have them. |
